TNT Express (European Region)

Overview

TNT Express (European region) provides door-to-door parcel express delivery services throughout Europe, as well as certain additional countries with deliveries to international destinations worldwide.

Recent Updates

  • The Express Connect URL has been updated to https://express.tnt.com/expressconnect/shipping/ship

TNT ExpressConnect

To access TNT Express services, Parcel now uses a Web Service called TNT ExpressConnect. Parcel users must have their account set up on the TNT ExpressConnect server, obtain login credentials, and then provide this information when configuring a TNT carrier. For information on setting up an account with TNT ExpressConnect, contact your local TNT representative for Express Connect registration details.
Notes:

  • TNT ExpressLabel Web Service is used to print Routing Label for International shipments. To use this functionality, Parcel users must also register for the TNT ExpressLabel Web service, and then provide this account information when configuring a TNT carrier.

  • Rating is done by the TNT ExpressConnect Web Service. Parcel passes shipment data to the ExpressConnect Web service, and then receives rating results back in the form of an XML file.

Supported Countries of Origin

Parcel currently supports the following countries of origin for TNT Express shipments: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey, and the United Kingdom (Great Britain).
Notes:

  • Although Express International services are identical across most origin countries, domestic services (origin and destination within the same country) vary by country.

  • International Shipments with a commercial value require a Commercial Invoice for declaration to customs.

Packaging types and packaging type rules

TNT ExpressConnect does not have carrier-specific packaging types. User Packaging is the only selectable option on the Parcel Warehouse screen.

Most of these can be selected in the Options dialog box (while processing a package on the Warehouse page, click OPTIONS on the Parcel tab).

Accessorial/Surcharge

Description (see the TNT Web site for details)

Saturday Delivery

TNT ExpressConnect does not return a value for this service. You must obtain the rate and conditions for Saturday delivery from your local TNT organization, and then configure the amount for this service for each TNT Express carrier using the Parcel Configuration (Web Admin) tool. This service can then be selected on the Options screen. (The default is for Saturday Delivery not to be selected.)
Note: This surcharge must be configured separately for each TNT account.

Email Notification

The Email notification option is common to all carriers and can be selected and specified on the Options screen when creating a shipment on the Warehouse screen.
Note: You need to set up Notifications for each location to which you add a TNT Express carrier using the ParcelConfiguration (Web Admin) tool. For more details, go to Parcel Configuration (Web Admin) Tool > Location Settings > Overview > Notification Service Config.

Customer Charge

This charge is common to all carriers and can be selected and specified on the Options screen when creating a shipment on the Warehouse screen.

Fuel Surcharge (Domestic)

You must obtain the fuel surcharge for domestic shipments from the TNT Web site or your TNT account representative, and then configure the amount (as a percentage) for this service for each TNT Express carrier using the Parcel Configuration (Web Admin) tool.
Caution: TNT updates this surcharge frequently. To ensure accurate rates, it is the Parcel user's responsibility to make these updates to the appropriate TNT accounts using the Parcel Configuration (Web Admin) tool.

Fuel Surcharge (International)

See previous row.

Configuration

To configure TNT Express so that you can use it to ship packages in Parcel, you need to complete all the configuration screens for TNT Express in the Parcel Configuration (Web Admin) tool. For more details on this process, go to Parcel Configuration (Web Admin) Tool > Carrier Configuration > TNT Express > Account Number and Services.

Note: TNT Express shipments are rated by the ExpressConnect Web service. Therefore, you do not need to import rates. However, you do need to have any custom rates configured by TNT for use with ExpressConnect.

Reference Fields

You can use the Reference 1 reference field in the lower left part of the Warehouse screen to include reference information (such as purchase order number) for each shipment in the TNT upload file. The Customer Reference (Reference 1 on the Warehouse screen) provides a method for the customer to identify a particular package as an alternative to the Consignment Number.
Notes:

  • If a Package Reference is supplied on the Parcel tab of the Warehouse screen, this Package Reference preferentially displays as the Customer Reference on the label and reports. If no Package Reference is supplied, then the Customer Reference entered in the Reference 1 field is displayed instead. If no Customer Reference is supplied then the field is left blank.

  • The maximum length of any value is 25 characters.

  • The Parcel TNT module supports on the Reference 1 reference field on the Warehouse screen. However, you can still use Reference fields 2-5 for internal reporting purposes. This data is stored in the TNT Express SOR database.

Reports and Labels

Reports

After you close a shipment with TNT as the carrier, you can print reports in the form of manifests to accompany the shipments when the TNT driver arrives to pick up the shipments. Use the Reports page on the Ship menu to print these manifests.
The following table lists the reports that are available to print for TNT Express:

Report/Manifest

Description

End of Day (EOD) Documentation: Summary Manifest

The EOD Summary Manifest consignment traveling via a particular mode of transport (Air or Ground) on a particular date.
Notes:

  • All the information in this report is derived directly from the Parcel TNT Express carrier database.

  • Orientation and size of this report as follows: Portrait, 8.5 x 11 in. (letter).

End of Day (EOD) Documentation: Detail Manifest

The EOD Detail Manifest provides details about the shipments traveling via a particular mode of transport (Air/International or Ground/Domestic) on a particular date for each consignment.
Portrait mode document (8.5x11)
Notes:

  • All the information in this report is derived directly from the Parcel TNT Express carrier database.

  • Orientation and size of this report as follows: Portrait, 8.5 x 11 in. (letter).

  • The barcode in the header is the consignment number in Code 39 format; for example: GE902847473GB

Consignment Note

Under certain circumstances a consignment note may be required:

  • International shipment to countries outside the European Union (EU).

  • Receiver pays the cost of the shipment.

Two identical documents are printed with only one line different. If a "Receiver's Copy" is printed, this needs to be attached to (one of) the corresponding package(s). If a "Custom's Copy" or "Receiver's Copy" is printed, this needs to put aside and must be handed over to the TNT driver when the packages are picked up.
Note: The Consignment Note usually runs to a bit more than half a page.

Commercial invoice (CI)

A commercial invoice is required for international shipments when:

  • The shipment contains non-documents.

  • The shipment origin or destination lies outside the European Union (EU).

  • The shipment contains items not in free circulation within the EU.
Note: Parcel creates the CI from data in the TNT Express carrier database.

Note: The Certificate of Origin is optionally available based on the requirements of the destination country. If this is the case, you can print the CO from a dialog box for International shipments.

International documentation

Parcel produces the following International documents:
