Generic Carrier
Overview
The Generic carrier module in Parcel is used for carriers that Parcel does not directly support (for example, local couriers or TL and LTL carriers).

Configuration
To configure the Generic carrier module so that you can use it to ship packages in Parcel, you must follow these steps:

Complete all of the configuration screens for Generic carrier in the Parcel Configuration Tool.
Reference Fields
You can use reference fields to include reference information (such as purchase order number) for each shipment on the Generic carrier shipping label.
The following table lists the reference fields that are available in the Generic carrier module.

You can select the following Special Services/accessorials while processing a shipment with the Generic carrier module (Generic Service):
Special Services/Accessorials - most of these services can be selected in the Options dialog box (while processing a package on the Warehouse page, click \[OPTIONS\] on the Parcel tab).

Description |
C.O.D. |
The carrier collects payment upon delivery and transmits collected payments to the shipper. To select C.O.D. while processing a Generic carrier package on the Warehouse page, click [OPTIONS]. On the Shipment tab, select the COD type and option on the left side, then enter the COD Amount on the right side of the screen. For multi-package shipments, the COD Amount can be different for each package, but the COD type and option must be the same for all of the packages in the shipment. |
Declared Value |
The value of the package contents for insurance purposes.

E-Mail Notification |
E-mail notification about the status of the shipment. You can specify an e-mail address to which to send an e-mail when the shipment is delivery, delayed, or sent.

Hazardous Materials |
For the transport of substances that are classified as hazardous materials or dangerous goods. |
Inside Delivery Area |
For freight service shipments that need to be delivered inside a building. Inside Delivery often includes unpacking and assembling of the shipment (and removal of old equipment if requested).

Lift Gate Delivery/Pickup |
When there is no loading dock, special equipment is needed to lower shipments from the truck trailer to ground level on delivery, or from the ground level to the truck trailer level on pickup.

Residential Delivery Surcharge |
Apply a residential delivery surcharge to the shipment.

Saturday Delivery |
For delivery of the shipment on a Saturday.
|
Saturday Pickup |
For pick-up of a shipment on a Saturday.
|
Signature Required |
Require the delivery person to obtain a recipient signature upon delivery.

Volume |
The volume (length X width X height) of the package in inches. This is to help the carrier determine special handling needs and how much space the package will occupy in a trailer.

Overview
This topic and related Help topics provide details on how to process a hazardous materials or dangerous goods package using the Generic carrier module in Parcel. Parcel does not validate the data you enter while processing a hazardous materials or dangerous goods package.
Before you attempt to process a hazardous materials or dangerous goods package in Parcel, you need to familiarize yourself with the rules of the carrier you are using through the Generic carrier module (these could include service and destination restrictions among other rules).

Qualifications
Federal law requires that you receive training and certification from the U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T) before shipping dangerous goods or hazardous materials with any carrier. For information about certification, visit {+}http://hazmat.dot.gov+ .

Processing Hazardous Materials
To process a hazardous materials shipment with the Generic carrier module, follow these steps:

Complete the required information on the Warehouse screen for a domestic package. Select the generic carrier you want to use in the Carrier list. Select Generic Service in the Service list.

Click [OPTIONS].

Click the Hazmat tab.

Shipping Name
Type the correct Shipping Name of the commodity from the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation Manual.
Technical Name
Type the technical name for all commodities whose proper shipping name ends in "n.o.s." ("not otherwise specified"). The technical name is a more detailed description of the commodity.
Class Div #
Type the category of the commodity as defined in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation Manual.
ADR Item #
Type the ADR Item number for intra-European Union dangerous goods shipments.
Subrisk Class
Type the category of subsidiary risks assigned to this commodity. Some hazardous materials have properties that meet more than one hazardous class. The less serious property is referred to as the subsidiary risk.
Reportable Quantity
For packages moving in or out of the United States, type the number of commodity that must be reported to the appropriate government agency in the case of a spillage. Refer to 49 CFR for a table of reportable quantities.
Pkg Group/Type #
Type the packing group assigned to this commodity by the United Nations.
Quantity
Type the amount of the commodity that you are shipping in a single container (based on the unit of measure you will select in the Units list).
Units
Enter the unit of measure that the commodity is measured in. This should match the units listed in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation Manual. The acceptable units of measure are as follows:

Grams - For solids

Kilograms - For solids

Kilograms Gross - Gross total package weight in kilograms instead of the net weight of only the commodity in kilograms.

Liters - For liquids
Emergency Contact Name
Type the contact in case of emergency. This is required.
Emergency Phone #
Type the phone number of the contact in case of emergency. This is required.
Additional Info
Type any additional information that might apply to the shipment. Refer to 49 CFR.
Transportation Mode
Type one of the following values for the transportation mode that will be used for this shipment:

Ground
IDG Identification #
Type the International Dangerous Goods (IDG) identification number assigned to this commodity.
Declaration Type
From the drop-down list, select one of the following declaration types:

Dangerous Goods (Fully Regulated)

Dangerous Goods (Limited Quantity) |
Complete the fields on the screen as follows:

Click [DONE] to return to the Warehouse page. On the Warehouse page, click [ADD] to add the package to the shipment, then click [SHIP] to ship it.

After the package ships successfully, a popup window listing the documents to print appears. Select the Bill of Lading (BOL). Then click [Print]. If the form appears on the screen, select File > Print to print it.
