FedEx SmartPost® - Overview

Scroll

FedEx SmartPost® is now configured in Parcel as a separate domestic carrier from FedEx US.

With FedEx SmartPost® services, your shipment is inducted to the US Postal Service Mail Center (DDU or NDC) closest to the recipient. The US Postal Service completes the actual delivery of the shipment to the recipient. Total transit time is 2-7 days.

Unlike FedEx Home Delivery®, FedEx SmartPost® packages can be delivered on a Monday and can be delivered to PO Boxes, as well as military APO and FPO destinations.

Except for FedEx SmartPost® Returns, FedEx SmartPost® services are a subset of USPS services as described in the following table:

FedEx SmartPost® Returns requires a FedEx SmartPost® Returns enabled meter/account number.

FedEx service marks are owned by Federal Express Corporation and are used by permission.

USPS compliance and Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMpb)

Parcel supports the USPS Intelligent Mail Package Barcode (IMpb) for FedEx SmartPos shipments. IMpb is a barcode for packages only. This barcode can be used for most services where applicable.

Note: IMpb is a barcode for packages only. This barcode can be used for Bound Printed Matter (BPM), Media Mail, or Parcel Select Lightweight. An IMpb encodes the following data: Mailer ID, nine-digit destination ZIP Code, type of mail service, and a unique serial number for the parcel, plus other information used by the USPS.  Because each IMpb mail piece has a unique identifier, it can be tracked individually at every stage to the point of delivery.

Notes:

The current FedEx SmartPost® FSMS Server deployment does not provide rates for oversize, nonmachinable packages, and balloon.

A field engineer (BluJay Solutions- or FedEx-based) needs to configure custom rate files with the FedEx Ship Manager® Server before a FedEx SmartPost® carrier can be used.

Supported Origins

FedEx SmartPost® is available for shipments originating in the 48 contiguous state of the US only. Thus Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Territories are not included as origin points for FedEx SmartPost®. (These  locations are, however, included as possible FedEx SmartPost® destinations - see the following section.)

American Samoa

Note: Although the territories listed above are considered International destinations by FedEx,  they are treated as domestic locations for FedEx SmartPost®. On the Warehouse screen drop-down lists, the territories listed above are on both the Country and State lists, but for FedEx SmartPost® deliveries, the selected Country should be United States, and the selected State should be the territory name.

Trailer ID

Parcel now enables you to Ship by Trailer ID for FedEx SmartPost®. This means that you can associate a shipment with a Trailer ID and generate a Trailer ID report.
