FedEx International DirectDistribution Surface Solutions - Process Overview |
Scroll |
When you begin a International DirectDistribution Surface Solutions shipment, the shipping service you select on the main shipping screen applies to the first package in the shipment and is for the second leg (from the U.S. border to the final U.S. recipient) of that package’s journey. Remember that the first leg of the shipment (from your Canada shipping location to the U.S. border) is handled by a domestic Canada service. You configure the code for this carrier (which can be FedEx) in the Line Haul Setup dialog box.
Beginning a International DirectDistribution Surface Solutions shipment is known as opening a master. When you open the master, you supply the shipment-level information that applies to all of the packages in that shipment, and you also process the first package (also known as a child) for that shipment at the same time. Opening the master can be compared to opening the cargo doors of the truck that will transport your packages to the U.S. border that day (and adding the first package of the shipment to that truck). When you add another package to the truck, you must add another child package to the open shipment in Parcel. You can continue adding child packages to a single shipment throughout the day until any of the following occur:
•The deadline to deliver to the U.S. border for that shipping day arrives
- or -
•You fill the truck that will transport your packages to the U.S. border.
- or -
•The shipment contains 999 commodities or packages.
Once one of the above occurs, you must confirm (close) the master shipment. Confirming the shipment can be compared to closing the cargo doors of the truck. You cannot add any more packages or make changes to the shipment after you have confirmed it.
Until the deadline to deliver to the U.S. border has been reached that day, you can continue processing new International DirectDistribution Surface Solutions shipments as you fill trucks. A shipment cannot be split among trucks.
