Using Parcel

Scroll

The Parcel user interface displays in your Web browser. Unless your organization uses a different method, you must log in with your user name and password (and role in some cases) to access the interface. After the application authenticates your user name, password, and role, your landing page (as configured in your profile) appears. The default landing page is the Welcome page.

Access

Your login user name and associated role determines the level of access you have to the distribution centers, menus, pages, and page elements in the application. Therefore, you may not see or have access to some of the features described in this User's Guide. For example, only certain people within your organization may be allowed to ship international shipments, close carriers, or manage the databases.

Your Application Administrator determines the level of access for your role on the System menu. If you have questions about your access level or need to change your password, please contact your application administrator.

Conventions

Menus

You access the various pages of the application by using the menus that display across the top of the page (below the Parcel logo). To open a menu, click the menu title with your left mouse button. Then move the mouse over the menu item whose page you want to view. The menu items are highlighted as you move the mouse over them. When the menu item you want to view is highlighted, click the left mouse button again to open it.  For example, to open this User's Guide, click the Help menu, move the mouse over User's Guide in the list to highlight it,  then click the left mouse button again to open it.

Entering Information on Pages

Text boxes that are required appear with a bolded text box label.

Boxes that include a to the right of the box are linked to a list. Click the button to open the list. Move your mouse down the list to highlight an item and click it with your left mouse button to select it. Your selection then appears in the text box. If a scroll bar appears when you open the list, you can hold down the left mouse button on the scroll bar and move the bar up and down to view the entire list.

The Internet Explorer browser includes a feature that predicts what you want to type after you type only the first few letters. The predicted words appear in a list below the box you are typing in. You can select one of the predicted words from the list or you can continue typing and the list will disappear.

To enable or disable this feature, click the Tools menu on the Internet Explorer menu bar at the top of the page, then select Internet Options. Click the Content tab, then click the  button in the Personal Information section. To disable the feature, clear the Forms check box then click OKAutoComplete. See the Internet Explorer Help file for more information.

Entering Dates - Boxes that require you to enter a date include a calendar to the right of the box. Click the calendar to open the calendar. See Using the Calendar for more information.

Navigating Boxes

You can press the Tab key on your keyboard to move from box to box on the pages. When you tab to a button, a dotted line appears around the button name. When that happens, you can press the Enter key on your keyboard to 'click' the button instead of using your left mouse button.

Messages

After you perform an operation like saving or updating information or shipping a package in the application, a message appears at the top of the page indicating whether the operation was successful or not. Sometimes the message includes other information such as a shipment number.
