Suppress Capability and Quote |
Select (check) this check box to suppress the return on Ship of any information except base rate and fuel surcharge. If this check box is selected, Parcel does not return charges for any special services and does not perform validation on available services. Use this option if necessary to improve performance. Caution: Selecting this option may cause operational issues due to limitations in the DHL XML-PI validation of a Ship request. Therefore, choosing this option requires careful manual validation to ensure that selected services and special services are supported for particular origin-destination pairs, etc. See the following section. Note: By default, this option is not selected. |
Click [SAVE] at the bottom of the screen to save the changes or click [Cancel] to cancel any changes.
You need to take the following operational considerations into account when setting up the DHL XML-PI Web service with a DHL Global carrier.
With the current DHL XML-PI workflow, when Parcel processes a DHL Global shipment, two separate transactions are sent to the XML-PI Web service: A Compatibility and Quote request and a Shipment request. Due to the potential performance degradation inherent in processing two separate requests, Parcel provides the "Suppress Capability and Quote on Ship" option enabling you to switch off the Compatibility and Quote request. Although selecting this option should improve overall performance, this approach has the following limitations:
•Only a rate for the base shipment and fuel surcharge is returned. No rates for Value Added Services are available.
•There is no Service or Value Added Service validation for the origin/destination. Therefore, it is the shipper’s responsibility to know what services and Value Added Services are appropriate for specific shipments.
•For some origins that do not currently use DHL Global Product Codes in their operations, no Local Product Codes are returned. This limitation can cause DHL operational issues. Therefore, BluJay Solutions recommends that customers check with their local DHL business Unit to determine if this will cause issues before selecting the “Suppress Capability and Quote on Ship” option.
If you leave the "Suppress Capability and Quote" option unselected, Parcel performs the following operations:
•If no special service is included, Parcel performs both a Compatibility and Quote request plus a shipment validation, and XML-PI returns a rate for the shipment and for Value Added Services that are configured for the customer's account.
•If a special service is included, Parcel performs two Capability and Quote requests.
Additionally, the XML-Pi Web service does not support a Close or Voiding for shipments. For DHL Global shipments, Parcel performs an internal Void but you must also physically discard the label that was generated for the shipment. If this procedure is followed, you are not charged for the shipment.
